Let’s say you are in SharePoint Designer 2007 and want to create a new form for adding an event to a calendar, but you want to change labels or add descriptive text or any other customizations to that form. You also want to keep the functionality of the Recurring event and All-Day Event options.
Well, think again. A huge glaring bug in SharePoint 2007 is when creating a custom form for an event and checking the ‘Recurrence’ on the form, you get an ‘unexpected error occured’ error.
If you notice on YouTube and Google, there are PLENTY of video tutorials showing you how to remove the Recurrence row and the ‘All-Day Event’ row from a custom form for the users. This makes total sense after the revelation of the bug on the custom form.
Luckily, SharePoint 2010 has fixed this bug and you’re able to create a custom form and retain the functionality of the Recurrence/All-Day Event.
One thing you can do in SharePoint 2007 is just create a standard list form and just make sure that the column names that are set up in the admin side of your SharePoint site are the same names that you want to appear as the Label on the form. For example, when creating a column named ‘AddlNotes’, the label on the form will be ‘AddlNotes’ so consider naming the column to ‘Additional Notes’ to clearly identify the purpose of the field.
Or… upgrade to SharePoint 2010 and customize away…
